This injection mold is engineered specifically for manufacturing medical-grade PP needle tubes (e.g., syringe barrels, catheter hubs), leveraging multi-cavity design to balance precision, efficiency, and compliance with medical device standards (ISO 13485).

Core Design & Cavity Configuration

  • Cavity Quantity: Customizable (8–32 cavities, typical 16/24 for high-volume production) to match production throughput. Each cavity is machined with ±0.005mm dimensional tolerance (critical for needle tube inner diameter/ wall thickness consistency).

  • Mold Material:

    • Cavity/core: S136 stainless steel (corrosion-resistant, polished to Ra 0.2μm for smooth PP release and sterile compatibility).

    • Mold base: P20 steel (high rigidity for repeated clamping cycles).

  • Gate System: Pinpoint gate (diameter 0.8–1.0mm, length 1.2mm) positioned at the tube’s flange—minimizes gate vestige (≤0.1mm) and avoids flow marks on the tube’s inner surface.

PP Injection Molding Parameters for Needle Tubes

Optimized for medical PP (homopolymer, FDA-compliant):
  1. Temperature:

    • Barrel zones: 200°C (zone 1) → 240°C (zones 2–4) → 230°C (nozzle).

    • Mold temperature: 60–70°C (maintains PP crystallinity for tube rigidity; core temp 5°C lower than cavity to prevent warping).

  2. Pressure & Speed:

    • Injection pressure: 1600–1800 bar (ensures full cavity filling for thin walls: 0.3–0.5mm).

    • Holding pressure: 80% of injection pressure (prevents sink marks on the tube’s flange).

    • Injection speed: 50–70 mm/s (high speed to avoid shear-induced PP degradation; slow final stage for gate sealing).

  3. Cycle Time: ~12–15 seconds (cooling time dominates, enabled by 3D-printed conformal cooling channels in the mold).
